Panchachuli-The Group of Five Mountain

The Panchachuli second highest peaks of kumaon region situated at the end of the eastern Kumaon region, near Dugtu Village Darma valley in Munsiyari in district Pithoragarh, state Uttarakhand, India. The peaks have an altitude of 6400 to 7000 meter. It is believed that this is the place ‘Five Chulis’ where the Pandavas cooked their last meal on the way to heaven. Panchuli is a group of five mountain.

The Panchauli base camp is 2.5-3.0 KM from Dugtu village. Dar to Panchachuli Glacier is a nice and easy walk. Panchachuli base camp trekking route is one of the exciting basecamp trekking. Trekking route forms the watershed between the Gori Ganga and Darma Valleys. Description of this trek on the blog is sophisticated and can only be experienced.

History of Panchachuli Peaks: 

It is believed that he made his last meal on this mountain while wandering in the Himalayas. At its five highest points, the five Pandavas made five chulhas i.e. small chulhas, hence this place was called Panchachuli. 

How to reach:

·        The nearest railway station is Kathgodam in Nainital district and Tanakpur in Champwat district. and from there you can travel through any Kumaon region bus and hire a taxi to reach there easily.

·        You can travel by road to Haldwani, Bhimtal, Almora, Dhaulchina, Sera- gat, Chaukhori, Thal, Ashkot, Dharchula that can be reached through the Almora- Thal-Munsiyari road.  From Dharchula it is a 3-hour drive to Dar along a windy road through the small tribal village Tawaghat and Sobla.
